We had planned to have an underground turkey like in Thanksgiving Day but time constraints made it all but impossible.

We did it grill style.(COOK-OUT STYLE) Wrapped up that bird in foil paper and placed a lid on it. It turned out delicious! We brought into the house early in the morning and then headed for work!

WE had to work today. Time to make the donuts mode. Not a bad deal considering the economic conditions in our country these days!

Aaron Pena is defending his defection to the Republican Party by saying it gives Hidalgo County "a seat at the table". Where was Hidalgo County before? In the parking lot?

More than likely it was standing at the table fighting for its share of help.

Pena also said it was not about party affiliation but about helping/and representing his community. Hmmm. Did they elect a Republican or a Democrat? They elected a Democrat.

Of oourse Pena does not have the guts to resign and run in a special election as a Republican. He wants to preserve his political life. He runs for re-election in 2012.

We will see if he will still be a GOP zebra then. Or maybe he will sniff the winds and decide to come back to the Democratic Party?

I had coffee with Don Miguel...the old gardener and asked him what he thought about Aaron Pena possibly defecting to the Grand Old Party. What would it mean to the Valley if Pena became a Republican?

The old man put his gloves on top of his Ford pick-up truck and sipped on his coffee. Starbucks I had bought him. He gave me that old wise grin.

This is what Don Miguel said: If Pena becomes a Republican then he is a chaquetero. A man who changes coats to suit his ambitions. In the old days it involved corruption and its mistress...dinero. YOU watch..he will use a cliche like I did not leave my party...my party left me. Either way it makes him a Judas. I do not trust any politician who switches sides like he switches socks. Republican or Democrat. I have seen my share of chaqueteros. Zebras who want to change their stripes. A politician can be worse than a prostitute. Even if he does not jump ship he is suspect. It is great political theater. The Republicans will hail him as heroic. The funny thing is that when one of theirs dons the Democratic chaqueta he is viewed as the Messiah's betrayer.

I asked Don Miguel if he wanted any pan dulce with his Starbucks and he gave me a thumbs up and then laughingly asked for an Aaron Pena...

What?

A turnover...preferably an apple turnover!

TRUE DALLAS COWBOYS FANS

Last night the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 30 to 27. A valiant effort by the Pokes.

A true Dallas Cowboys fan lives and dies, wins and loses with his team. A loyal fanatic does not go hitchhiking down that NFL Highway hoping to catch a ride on the next Great Bandwagon. No Sir. No way. No How. A true and loyal fan sticks to his guns with his squad. Through thick and thin.

I became a fan of the Pokes back in the 2nd grade. I had the Dallas Cowboys notebook. I kept both sides nice and clean. Sure, it had the protective plastic cover. This did not stop me from wiping off the dust. I after all grew up in the country. Dust and dirt were tag team partners that wrestled with windshields and windowns. With kids' faces and dreams.

I grew up rooting for Dallas as Roger Staubach lead them. Plenty of victories and plenty of defeats. The next morning in school I kept a stiff upper lip as the juvenile Cowboy haters hissed in delight of their defeat. The Houston Oiler fans loved to tease as well. Love ya Blue too.

I lived through all the tough years in the desert after Roger The Dodger retired. Always faithful.

We watched as some fans tossed the Dallas jerseys in favor of the flavor of the gridiron day. Green Bay first and on it went. NOT A TRUE DALLAS COWBOYS FAN.

For me the season never really ends. I wear my Dallas Cowboys cap every day!

So yes, the Cowboys lost to their hated divisional rivals from Philly last night.

YOU won't see me out by the roadside trying to hitch a ride on another team's bandwagon. It just is not going to happen.

WE live and die...we lose or win with our team.

It seems that her father was involved in the drug trade and had run afoul of his masters. SO...instead of taking him out they took his daughter instead!

Perhaps now with DNA advances this CASE can be solved.

The body was found somewhere near the 2 Mile Line in Mission.

It was 3 years ago. I was standing there like some high school kid talking to this beautiful and intelligent graphics artist. She looked like Diana Prince (Wonder Woman). We were sipping our coffee chitter chatting about the short weekend, WORK, Texas wildflowers, and her father's cattle ranch. Along came a spider...I mean a man from the Accounting Department to say Hi and Good Morning. THAT is when she noticed his Masonic ring! She uttered a nearly inaudible shriek of fear! Masons are bad was the statement from her red lips!

The bearded bean counter informed her that it was a benevolent brotherhood of men. She notified him that Catholics could not join the Masons. He hit the verbal tennis ball back with his racket a la Jimmy Connors. Yes, he said now they can. With a sip of coffee he waltzed off to his part of the building.

I had just read an article in Our Sunday Visitor which is a Catholic newspaper on such a subject! Accounting Ace was wrong! You cannot join the Masons if you are a Catholic!

Amen says the Black Madonna Defense Force! You cannot be a Catholic and a Mason! Big No-No!

THE NEW AND REMODELED MCDONALDS IN SOUTH MISSION, TEXAS

WE were up nice and early on the morning of November 5. Also known as last Friday...the first Friday of the month of November.

We ventured out to 303 E. Expressway 83 to the remodeled and highly improved McDonalds. The area that once hosted Mission's first Walmart eons ago. So it seems ages ago.

WE ordered 1 Southern Chicken biscuit, 1 Sausage biscuit, 1 medium Wildberry smoothy, 1 medium Mocha Frappe, and 1 medium orange juice!

Great service. Polite young people.

The restaurant had a coffeehouse feel to it with soft lights.

Old folks, working class souls, youngsters, and then US at this venue.

Good job with the feel, size, and look of the building.

It was after 10:00 PM. I was headed home after 4 hours of night courses at a McAllen technical school. Mr. Clark saw that I was driving my father's old Chevy and commented that it was a nice ride and that I should take care of "that Chevy". We chatted a bit as we headed for the store. A nice enough fellow. That was a good impression.

Some car dealer souls will treat you right and others will treat you as a number.

Mr. Clark is one of the good guys...and he is an artist as well!

BOOK REPORTS?

FOR some reason I found myself walking down Memory Lane thinking back on school book reports. Primarily from Junior High. Fond memories of reading books and preparing a written interpretation of what I had read. That was always fun and easy. The oral book reports were a different story. Nerve wrecking. I remember all eyes on me as I uttered the words that would garner me a grade. I was always nervous.

I wonder if my old alma mater still has book reports...both oral and written?

PBS had a program last night on BREAKFASTS around the country. I missed about 40minutes of the show so I only saw a segment on breakfast in Portland, Oregon and what appeared to be San Francisco's Chinatown. I would have to view the entire documentary to be sure of its location!

The Chinatown segment was about rice oatmeal. Some folks ordered it with shrimp, fried bread, and other neat ingredients.

The Portland, Oregon piece had some nice German pancakes, potato pancakes and imaginatively delicious morning dishes!

I am getting hungry!

We just saw a headline from The Free Lance Star that screamed ROLLING STONE BRINGS DOWN A WARRIOR.

ACTUALLY General Stanley McChrystal brought himself down. Loose lips sink ships. Sailor talk. Let's just say that the general did himself in.

EVERY soldier is taught that you do not speak ill of your commander-in-chief. The military has its own laws.

WE actually served in the Armed Services.

ONLINE life can be a reflection or distortion of real life. I was just going through my email account. I am by nature a packrat! I keep everything! This includes emails. Nasty habit. I try to delete most spam and old emails that I may deem obsolete. Did I key that in with a straight face? I am not sure. I do not have a mirror in front of me!

Back to my story: I decided to delete some emails. From 2009? Yes, from February and March of 2009!! I found some from an online stalker/psycho that had posted some rather nasty comments on my myspace account.

The crazy part is that back in February and March 2009 I had not noticed those comments! I was only aware of such comments back in October of that year.

Lex is a truck driver from North Carolina. She could pass for a guy! Mean and just plain scary! Uy! Psychological bully. Ex-Army truck driver.

She was not too happy with my postings blasting her.

She disappeared for good around Christmas or so.

General Stanley McChrystal is out of a job for criticizing President Obama's cabinet in a Rolling Stone magazine interview.

It is a huge no-no to criticize your commander-in-chief if you are in the military. It is a rule you are taught from basic training! Keep your military bearing! The military runs on its own laws and regulations.

McChrystal should have known better. He comes off as disrespectful and arrogant in the interview.

Did Rolling Stone help bring the general down or did the general want to go down? Did he plot his own military demise?

President Obama did the right thing by firing him.

My alarm clock is dead. Our old trusty red rooster passed away sometime Sunday. We have never gone a day without a gallo. Living in the country is a lot of fun. No city noises.

Rudy would crow at Midnight and around 4:30 am. If he heard another gallo crowing he would respond. Sometimes it was a challenge-type crow.

His estranged wife claims that he has threatened to kill her and her children. A restraining order is out against him. In Maricopa County of Arizona of all places.

So much for his law-abiding line.

PBS MEMORIAL DAY TELEVISION SHOW

KMBH CHANNEL 60 the local PBS television station had an excellent Memorial Day program last night.

It detailed the different American military cemeteries world wide. Cemeteries in the Phillipines, Belguim, Italy, France and other countries. Some hold World War I soldiers and some are resting places for World War II. troops.

It was not just a spotlight on the resting grounds. It told the story of the military men aand women and how they died for our country. It also had interviews with locals.

NICE VIEW. From where I stand Arizona's immigration law is RACIST. THAT is my opinion. I see it this way: Any law that leaves the door open to bigots utilizing racial profiling is a bad piece of "ley" (law) as the locals call it.

When I was in Ireland I would visit London now and then. The Brits heard my Irish accent and kept an eye on me. Profiling. Profiling. Never mind the terms of endearment they uttered my way.

There was a news item that 3 churches in Rio Hondo had received threatening letters. The police did not release much information.

THIS was in the huge metropolis of McAllen.

Now where do they hang out? In an alley near the library? At the new Art Center down from the library...to the north of it?

It seemed more fun and magical at the old Millennium.

The lovely complex feels like a museum.

HEALTHCARE REFORM!

The huge smile on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's face said it all. The Democrats passed a bill through with a score of 219 to 212. The overhaul of the country's healthcare system took a shot of momentum with all 178 Republicans saying NAY as well as 34 Democrats who said NO in their vote.

The bill rockets to President Obama's desk to be signed into law.

The floor of the House of Representatives must have had coffee and tea spilled all over. The Tea Party swayed in its conservative ire and opposition to healthcare reform. The Coffee Party which is the opposite of the tea baggers rejoiced in its victory. Symbolically tea and coffee spillage.

Republicans had vowed to "go after" all politicians who supported the measure. Now, the nasty plots twist. All Democrats are fair game in the political season.

We will soon see if this law actually helps the regular American.

We hope that it does.

RUSH LIMBAUGH IN SPANISH?

Rush Limbaugh supposedly said that if the Obama Administration got its way and reformed health care in the United States he would move to COSTA RICA. REALLY? Or will Limbaugh pull an Alec Baldwin and NOT follow through on his "threat" to move out of the country?

Remember Baldwin said he would move if George W. Bush was elected president of the United States?

If Limbaugh moves to Costa Rica will he eventually broadcast from there in English and then in Spanish?

Charlie Rankin bought KURV AM 710 in Edinburg, Texas back in 1984. Mr. Rankin is leaving the Rio Grande Valley this year. The long time broadcaster sold the station to millionaire Tony Sanchez some years ago. Sanchez sold the station after a brief run. Ah, millionaires and their toys!

Rankin does not care for the many changes the station went through.

When he ran the show he ran it as an independent media entity. His familiar voice will be missed.

Davis Rankin is his son. Davis had a morning radio talk show for many years on KURV. His contract was not renewed.

Sergio Sanchez is the anchor that keeps the ship afloat. For how long? Serg has a Saturday morning talk show/rant. The show seems low budget and easy to follow. The format: Serg ranting/wailing/whining like a hybrid of Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity. It is ok..if you like that kind of show.

KURV has Coast To Coast AM with George Nouri from Midnight to Five AM! The 4:00 am to 5:00 AM hour is the first hour as a rerun. Excellent show! It covers conspiracy theories, the supernatural, and UFO's. Anything that falls within that subject matter is just interesting!

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY AND I CAN BE CREEPED OUT IF I WANT TO....This falls under yikes!

On my way to work on my birthday this morning we encountered a woman in her late 20's to mid-30s driving a white SUV on McColl Road. She had her car stereo on louder than you know what! She came up close to us and started making obscene gestures. You get the picture with the title of this blog.

The red light at McColl and Dove was longer than usual. Road Luster continued with her pornographic pantomime. I got really nervous. One never knows these days. What if she had a gun? What if "she" was a he? Perish the thought. The light turned green after half an eternity. Off we went.

As we checked our rearview and side mirrors we noticed that Road Luster had a bead on a long red truck. Chevy. The same old sales pitch. As we approached Violet Red Truck Dude had had enough. Sex sells..but no one was buying?

We caught a red light at McColl and Nolana. We had to turn left and head for work. Road Luster got into the left turn lane with us. Gulp!

The plan was set in motion: I was to grab my junk...er...work material and hustle into the office. I did that as Road Luster hovered to the side of our vehicle patiently waiting for our vehicle's next move. My ride headed west on Nolana with a tail on him.

Later I called my ride and was told that he was followed all the way to Barnes And Noble. Remember the old Royal China restaurant? A McAllen Police car was parked in there. Safety valve. Took it. Rolled into that parking lot. Road Luster continued west on Nolana.

Yikes!

Give me a pair of socks for my birthday!

DEMOCRATIC incumbent Congressman Ruben Hinojosa defeated Doug "La Perla"(The Pearl)Purl March 2, 2010 in the Democratic Primary. Purl seemed shocked that Hinojosa won by a huge margin. Purl had met a lot of folks who wanted change in Washington DC.

Not enough wanted change it appears.

Hinojosa will wait to see who is Republican challenger is November 2nd in the general election.

District 15 has had Hinojosa as its Congressman since 1996. Will he continue at his post?

He had to find a job to provide for his family. A knight without a horse is still a knight as long as he has fight in his soul. It is when we surrender that we truly lose.

It is rough. There is no denying that. I should know. I spent 6 months jobless once.
Way before the economy went Deep South. Way back in the last century. I can only imagine what a jobseeker goes through in today's brave new world!

Don't fall prey to regret as in "If only I had come to visit more" after one of your parents passes away. An hour with them will not kill you! Career matters but did career sit with you all night as you ran a fever or did career sacrifice working at a back breaking job for your family? How many times could your parental units have just spent on something nice for them and denied themselves in order for you to be fed and clothed?

Don't regret. Visit your parents. Spend one hour at least! It is a spiritual crime to neglect the souls that brought you into this existence! It is a sin. Think of what you are teaching your kids.

Case in point: I had occasion to speak with a nice elderly lady of Hispanic background. With a name like Gomez or Trevino it would be a safe bet, right? I met a nice elderly lady today with the last name of Trevino.

She had a nice round gold and silver medallion. I asked her what it was. I thought it was religious in nature. She informed me that it was an Italian coin and that 2 of her sisters had a medallion like hers.

She travels to Italy when she can. It turns out her grandfather is Italian. He came over from the old country on a boat.

She has relatives in Italia and stays with them in their hotel that they inherited from their father.

She recommends Garda Lake.

Right before I had my first cup of coffee I listened to the 5:00 AM news on the radio and heard that the Pentagon will allow our military access to facebook, twitter, and myspace. Social networking now allowed! Nice. Still off-limits: porn sites and hate websites. No racist sites.

The big generales decided that social networks were "good" and besides they can utilize it for recruiting. Good for them.

I just hope our military men and women use the internet responsibly. Don't give out any sensitive information.

Back when I was in the military we were shown black and white videos of how we should keep our mouths shut about leaking troop movements or anything deemed "sensitive." We were encouraged to use our brains!

I got my Sunday dose of 60 Minutes. I watched The Amazing Race, and Undercover Boss before I went into my kitchen office to work on one of 3 projects.

The cold front came screaming in at about 11:30 pm. I knew I had to hit the sack or come into work looking and feeling like a zombie.

I am not getting any younger!

When I jumped out of bed at 4:12 AM I felt the cold chill in the air. It must have been in the 40's. I know it was not a cool 90 degrees Fahrenheit!!

I stepped outside and saw puddles on the ground! It must have rained as I snored through the night!

We have had so much rain! GOD is definitely watching out for our needs!

HE must think we are nuts because we complain about the weather all the time! It is either too hot or too cold.

There was an interesting opinion piece on the Tea Party Movement where the writer wondered if Sarah Palin was using the grassroots movement to further her political career and the fortunes of the Republican Party.

The writer thinks that the Tea Party folks are being played by Palin and the GOP because the Reps are part of the system they want to change!

We think the Tea Partyers are smarter than that!

We need to exercise our right to vote! Don't just sit on the sidelines! Get involved!

We are not endorsing anyone in this race. We are just happy that someone will challenge Mr. Garza. Sometimes politicians get too comfy when they face no opposition.

Garza has a smart political commercial where he calls himself "codo" as in cheap..a man who watches his money and how it is spent. He makes a valid point.

3 AMERICANS INJURED IN PAKISTAN

We were under the impression that we did not have troops of any sort in Pakistan! We just read that 3 Americans were injured as they accompanied Pakistani forces.

Nice. We are taking the fight to Al Qaeda in Pakistan.
